TYAC launches new strategic plan for 2020-2025

Our strategic plan was launched at our annual TYAC Conference in November 2019. The plan includes our goals for 2020 - 2025.

Through increased investment in research, policy and education, the strategy aims to unite healthcare professionals into providing age-appropriate care for teenagers and young adults with cancer.

At the heart of TYAC’s direction is the new strapline 'bridging the gap' reflecting the need for an organisation dedicated to the different and specific needs of teenagers and young adults by seamlessly spanning the gap between child and adult cancer care.

Ashley Gamble, Chief Executive of CCLG, said the new plan is a positive step forward for the future of teenage and young adult cancer care in the UK.

"We're delighted to launch this new planning, setting out the direction for TYAC over the next five years. While our goals are ambitious, we know that our dedicated membership has the drive and passion to help us achieve these, ultimately for the benefit of all teenagers and young adults with cancer."

Dr Dave Hobin, TYAC Chair and Consultant Paediatric Oncologist added:

"TYAC has been central to the development of teenage and young adult cancer practice over the last fifteen years, and our new plan outlines how we intend to continue this important work, shaping a future where all young people with cancer survive, and live well."

We revealed four main goals, clearly setting out our organisational objectives as follows:

  • Build a membership community for all professionals working with TYA cancer patients
  • Be a strong professional voice for teenagers and young adults with cancer and their need for specialist care
  • Educate for impact to improve the cancer experience for young patients
  • Lead and fund world-class research dedicated to teenage and young adult cancer research

These core ambitions are set to be rolled out across the organisation, all with the common objective of shaping a future where all teenagers and young adults with cancer survive and live well.
