We are inviting individuals or groups working in the field of teenagers and young adults (TYA) with cancer to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentation at TYAC’s Conference ‘Contemporary issues in youth and cancer’ to be held in Birmingham on 11 and 12 September 2018.

  • We welcome abstracts covering all aspects of TYA cancer care. 
  • Submissions can be either new, previously unpublished work or material that has previously been presented elsewhere.
  • You can submit more than one abstract.
  • All abstracts will be subject to review by the TYAC Conference Organising Committee.
  • TYAC is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and to supporting ethical research practices. We expect all authors/presenters to ensure that they comply with the highest ethical principles in their presentations and seek ethical approval/guidance where appropriate that protect the author(s)/ organisations; professions they represent and research subjects/participants.
  • TYAC has produced a guide to writing an abstract that you may find helpful – please ask us for a copy if you haven’t received it.

Lisa Thaxter Prizes

Prizes and runner-up prizes will be awarded at the conference for the best poster and oral presentations.

Note: Only new or previously unpublished work or material will be eligible for the Lisa Thaxter prizes.

Abstracts will be judged by the TYAC Conference Organising Committee (Professional Education Group). The winning presentation and runner up will be published in the members’ area of the TYAC website.

The criteria for judging are:

  • Clarity of presentation
  • Innovation and originality
  • Relevance to teenage and young adult cancer practice

To enter an abstract for consideration, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Format
  • Use the template provided for your abstract: TYAC_2018_Abstract_Form_final.docx
  • Use the standard headings shown on the template to construct your abstract.
  • Type your abstract in English using Times New Roman 12 pt font.
  • Include a TITLE (type in capitals), author list and affiliations.
  • The maximum word count is 250 words (excluding title, authors and affiliations).
  • Do not include any tables or references.
  • Your abstract should fit within the template.

We will only consider abstracts that meet the above criteria.  The decision of the TYAC Conference Organising Committee on the acceptability of the abstract is final. No correspondence on their decision can be initiated by the author(s).

  1. Submission

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 5pm on 6 July 2018. Email your entry on the correct form (download below), in Microsoft Word document format to [email protected] and we will acknowledge receipt of your application.

  1. Acceptance

We will let you know if your abstract has been accepted for presentation by email no later than 27 July 2018. 

  • Poster presentations can be up to A1 size (594mm x 841mm) in portrait layout.
  1. Registration and Payment

If your abstract has been accepted for presentation you will need to register and pay for your place at the meeting. You will also be responsible for arranging and funding your own travel and accommodation.
