In 2012-2013, a study titled “Mapping Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Services in England: the BRIGHTLIGHT Directory of Care” was carried out in 13 PTCs. Primary data collection was carried out in nine PTCs and analysis of data from secondary sources was implemented in four PTCs. This study sought to understand the layout of each unit, and identify the role played by the care environment on the experiences of young people, family members, and healthcare professionals. Young people were asked to take photographs of important parts of the PTC and use these images to construct a map of care, they were also interviewed.  Family members and healthcare professionals were also interviewed and the researcher carried out observations in each unit and undertook documentary analysis to collate details about each service. The data collected in this study was used to inform the selection of the four sites where this study will now take place: Leeds, UCH London, Leicester/Nottingham Integrated Centre, and Southampton.

The team would like to thank everyone who participated in the Mapping Study as well as Cecilia Vindrola who lead on the data collection.
